Building a sustainable and prosperous future through data-driven breeding and agriculture.
To achieve a sustainable and prosperous society, we need a new form of breeding and agriculture that fully unlocks the potential of plants. The key lies in a data-driven approach that integrates life science with digital technology. By scientifically analyzing vast amounts of phenotypic and genomic data, we enable precise decision-making and efficient breeding, creating new models of breeding and agriculture that lead us toward a sustainable and prosperous future.
With this vision, Quantomics was founded in 2019 by members of the Graduate School of Agricultural and Life Sciences at the University of Tokyo. By bringing advanced research findings and expertise in phenomics and genomic breeding into practice, we are pioneering the future of breeding and agriculture—through science and data, from Japan to Asia, and to the world.
Named Among the Top 2% of the world’s most influential researchers
Our directors Wei Guo and Hiroyoshi Iwata have been selected among the “Top 2% of the world’s most influential researchers,” as announced by Stanford University and Elsevier.
At the Agribusiness Creation Fair, to be held at Tokyo Big Sight from November 26 to 28, 2025, our director Kuroki will give a pitch presentation on behalf of the smart breed Consortium.
We will exhibit as the smart breed Consortium at J-AGRI, held at Makuhari Messe from October 1 to 3, 2025.
Starting in November 2024, we have been selected for the following SBIR Phase 3 program as a member of the smart breed™ consortium. The consortium consists of our company, ListenField Inc., Phytometrics Inc., and the Isobe Group from the Graduate School of Agricultural and Life Sciences at the University of Tokyo. This project aims to promote the adoption of smart breeding.
Innovation in Breeding Business through a Data-Driven Platform
Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries – Startup Business Innovation Research Program (SBIR Phase 3 Fund Program) by Cabinet Office, Government of Japan
Theme “B: Demonstration of Smart Breeding Projects to Strengthen Variety Development Capabilities”
Duration: FY2024–FY2027
As the need for plant breeding increases amid climate change and global food crises, breeding has often been regarded as an “art,” with the creation of new varieties relying heavily on the “craftsmanship” of breeders. This project aims to develop smart breed™, an integrated breeding platform connected via APIs, to transform “intuition” into “objectivity” and elevate “human expertise” into “system intelligence.” Furthermore, since breeding inherently involves large-scale genetic experimentation, the project also envisions contributing its outcomes back to academic research as scientific knowledge. For more details, please visit the consortium’s website.
